About Us

Nature’s Joy markets the highest quality California pistachios and almonds to meet the increasing demand for healthy snacks. Our goal is to create a seamless farm to store experience for food retailers across the United States. Our farming and processing operations are located in the central valley of California, the heart of the pistachio and almond-growing region.

Nature’s Joy is the domestic sales and marketing arm for Primex Farms. Primex is the world’s third largest pistachio processer and markets over $400 million of nuts annually.

Primex has been an industry leader in pistachio processing, marketing and exporting for more than 20 years.

The Primex Wasco processing facility was built in 2002 on 280 acres with a modular concept allowing room for cost efficient expansion to keep pace with the growing crop size.

We continue to increase and expand our processing capacity and capability to meet ever-increasing pistachio demand. In 2011/2012 we added 21 silos increasing storage to 60 million pounds annually. Expanded hulling capacity by 50%, which increased field receipts to 150 loads per day and processing capacity to 60 million pounds per year. Retail packaging line was added to complete our vertical integration.

Our experience and vertical integration make Primex and Nature’s Joy the best choice for processing and marketing pistachios worldwide.

From Farm to Shelf

Primex/Nature’s Joy processes 8-9% of the domestic pistachio crop each year, 45 million pounds for the 2014 crop year.

The pistachio crop is expected to grow from 515 million lbs. in 2014 to over one billion lbs. in the next 7 years. We expect to maintain our 8-9 percent crop market share and our Wasco, CA processing facility is set up for expansion to meet the increasing crop size. Current capacity in Wasco is 6o million lbs.

Together with our grower partners we control over 25,000 acres of pistachios and half of this acreage is younger trees, which at full maturity are expected to produce 80 million lbs.

Food Safety

“Our goal, from the day we started operating, has always been food safety.” Tiffany Weldin, Quality Systems Director Primex Farms

At Primex Farms, food safety is our highest priority. It’s part of our culture. We meet or exceed all USDA and FDA food safety standards and regulations. We follow good manufacturing practices (GMPs) and adhere to a rigorous quality assurance program

The onsite Primex food safety lab was established to specifically streamline Aflatoxin testing. Our Advance Mycotoxin Lab is accredited by the USDA and by A2LA to ISO-17025:2005 certificate # 2720.01 aflatoxin analysis in pistachios and almonds and is well recognized by the nut industry. Food safety is an integral part of the company’s culture. In fact, the USDA has recommended other facilities visit Primex to prepare for their own accreditation process.

Sustainable Practices

Primex is an established industry leader in environmentally friendly and sustainable practices from the orchard through processing.

  • First in the industry to recycle solid waste and water – the plant produces no by-products

  • All processed by-products are recycled: hulls for cattle feed and shells for electric cogeneration

  • First in the industry to install a solar panel system which covers 75% of our annual electrical needs

  • The most advanced direct irrigation technology is used so every drop of water is used effectively

  • Shredding debris instead of burning it

  • Reduce pesticide use by re-shaking orchards which breaks the hatch cycle of pests

  • Shut down our water wells during California’s heaviest electricity demand periods to conserve power

  • Shipping cartons are SFI Certified for responsible forest management and use of post-consumer recycled content

  • Inner cartons are produced with recycled paper
